‘World champion of antioxidants’: astaxanthin

Astaxanthin: What is it?
Whether it’s anti-ageing or concentration and performance: astaxanthin is used in all these areas. Find out how and in what ways astaxanthin can help in this blog post:
Let’s start with the basics:
What effect does taking astaxanthin have on the body?
Prof. Dr Bernd Kleine-Gunk (President of the German Society of Anti-Ageing Medicine) explains:
“If you want to combat oxidative stress, you should use the substances that have the highest antioxidant potency. And astaxanthin is definitely right at the top of the list. However, astaxanthin is not just a highly potent antioxidant – and therefore an interesting substance for anti-ageing medicine. Astaxanthin is also a highly effective substance that athletes (elite athletes) can use to help them recover after intense exertion. I recommend a dose of at least two milligrams per day. Better still, four, six or eight milligrams.”
Fact Check: Astaxanthin
- Key facts about astaxanthin at a glance:
- The most powerful natural antioxidant
- Astaxanthin belongs to the class of beta-carotenoids and is found, for example, in algae, fish, crustaceans and the feathers of some birds
- Our purely plant-based astaxanthin is extracted from the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis
- Due to its health-promoting effects, the active ingredient astaxanthin is a popular dietary supplement
- Astaxanthin acts as an antioxidant in a similar way to provitamin A
- Astaxanthin not only helps prevent cell damage; it also reduces cellular ageing caused by ‘oxidative stress’.
- Natural carotenoid complex – combined with lutein, canthaxanthin, zeaxanthin and beta-carotene
- Astaxanthin: the most powerful natural antioxidant
Astaxanthin is purely plant-based and known as the ‘queen of carotenoids’. It is considered the most powerful natural antioxidant. Numerous studies have shown that natural astaxanthin is over 500 times more potent than vitamin E and other carotenoids. The astaxanthin molecule can neutralise up to 19 free radicals, which have a negative impact on cellular ageing. Prof. Dr Kleine-Gunk even refers to astaxanthin as the ‘world champion of antioxidants’ –
A world champion offering a wide range of health benefits:
- Ideal for boosting the immune system
- Protects cells and reduces inflammation (anti-ageing effect)
- Improves concentration
- Supports mental and physical performance
