What is Astaxanthin?

Astaxanthin is a natural, plant-based compound that belongs to the beta-carotenoids. It is primarily produced by the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis. The shells of crustaceans that consume these algae owe their intense red to reddish-purple color to it. Other animals that feed on them are also colored by astaxanthin, the most well-known example being the flamingo. Astaxanthin is also found in foods, for example in salmon.

How is Astaxanthin produced?

Astaxanthin is not a synthetic product. It occurs in certain types of algae, which can be cultivated to extract astaxanthin. Our astaxanthin is extracted from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis grown in indoor hydroponic cultures. By the way, we source astaxanthin exclusively from our production in Europe!

DR. HEILBRONNER organic astaxanthin has a dosage of 4mg per capsule. Therefore, we recommend a daily dose of one capsule, which can be taken easily with plenty of fluids.

Astaxanthin is a natural pigment produced by algae. It is also present in organisms that come into contact with it along the food chain. From fish and crustaceans to flamingos, the flesh, shells, or feathers of these animals are tinted pink or reddish.
