Ginger (Zingiber officinale) contains a variety of bioactive compounds. The most important active ingredients include

Gingerol: This is the main component of fresh ginger
Shogaol: This compound is produced when ginger is dried and heated.
Zingiberene: An essential oil found in ginger that is responsible for its characteristic flavor and aroma.
Beta-bisabolol
Paranemes and other flavonoids
